Committees

Social
The social committee organizes, schedules, and advertises social events in which mentees and mentors can interact with each other. Members meet regularly with the social director to plan social and recreational events for our FLP community. Individuals are responsible for the logistics of the events, gathering all materials necessary to achieve a successful outcome. All members are required to take an active role in planning. The next FLP Mentor/Mentee social is Saturday, February 20, 2010.

Fundraising for FLP

Members of the Fundraising Committee are responsible for implementing projects that will generate money for FLP. Individuals brainstorm ideas, consider logistics of the events, and identify all the specific, detailed steps necessary to achieve the plans.  The money will provide funds for socials, retreats, service projects, conferences, and the end-of the-year banquet. A report of the committee’s progress is expected at the end of each month.

Fundraising for ECAASU

Members of the Fundraising Committee are responsible for implementing projects that will generate money for the East Coast Asian American Student Union conference. Individuals brainstorm ideas, consider logistics of the events, and identify all the specific, detailed steps necessary to achieve the plans.  The money will provide funds for transportation (air fares, train rides, subways, etc), hotel, food, and other expenses related to the trip. ECAASU will be from March 4-6, followed by a four day educational trip to New York City. A report of the committee’s progress is expected at the end of each month.

Community Service

Members of the Community Service Committee encourage and facilitate active participation in volunteer activities on campus and throughout the Gainesville community. Individuals must search for service events in which FLP can participate.  The committee is expected to contact different organizations/directors and visit websites to gather information and report back to the Service chair. Members will present at least two possible service activities to FLP Directors each month.  FLP have participated in March of Dimes, Gator Plunge, Bone Marrow Drive, Make a Difference Day, and many more.

Historian

FLP aims to create a scrapbook and a website, archiving all the FLP activities of the past along with the present. This scrapbook will help newcomers and non-FLPers visualize the dynamics of the program. It will serve as one of the social media to enhance FLP’s image while tabling for events such as Gatormania and AASA Assembly.  Members are responsible for taking pictures and document different FLP activities throughout the year. Two representatives from this committee are required at every FLP related activities. In order for FLP Directors to see progress of the team, we expect members to present one to two pages of the product at each meeting. 5 pages are due at the end of each month. As for the website, two individuals are in charge of researching different blog spots or website domains to upload FLP information, events, and pictures. All FLP pictures from the beginning of the year will be provided.

Awareness

This committee will inform everyone on issues on campus and in the community. Members will take time to find out about problems facing students and report back with the information so issues can be publicized to all our members.
